State incompetence leading to innocent people being executed aside, I always thought the death penalty as the appropriate punishment was a weak argument from the pro-execution crowd. "Putting them down" to sate our rage overlooks that this is essentially what we do with our beloved pets when they get old.

Incarceration for life with no chance of parole is a far more satisfying punishment for me. The sadist in me wants these fuckers to rot in a cell, isolated from the world for the rest of their wretched lives.

That, and living in the general population of a maximum security prison for the next 30–50 years is a much better punishment anyway. The death penalty is way overrated. Be careful in the showers, Scott!

Agreed. The state shouldn't kill people. If we wouldn't put so many fucking people in prison for stupid ass drug charges, we'd have plenty of places to stuff all the homicidal jackasses we produce. I'll keep my thoughts about those numbers and gun control to myself for now...
