Just out of curiosity, I clicked "Buy iPhone" on the iPhone page on Apple's website. I got part of the way through the process and it informed me that as a "valued customer" i was eligible for a partial discount. The 32gig iPhone 3GS was $499 (as opposed to the $699 listed in the fine print) and the 16gig was $399 (opposed to $599). So it looks like something of a discount is available for those of us who got the 3G on or around the date it was released. Just not the full discount.
