iPhone 3GS

So yeah, nice update, but I think I’ll wait. Here’s the logic. Currently my AT&T account page shows that I’ll be eligible for a discounted upgrade from my iPhone 3G on December 23rd. I don’t see any reason why that policy would change. Next, Apple has now consistently upgraded the iPhone 1 year after the release of the previous model. I think I can wait six months to see what 2010’s iPhone model has to offer. Early prediction 64GB memory top end and the newly rolled out 4G network. Which may also mean independence from AT&T, not that Verizon is any better.

I got my 3G apparently around the same time as you (my upgrade is eligible around Dec. 19). Just out of curiosity, I clicked “Buy iPhone” on the iPhone page on Apple’s website. I got part of the way through the process and it informed me that as a “valued customer” i was eligible for a partial discount. The 32gig iPhone 3GS was $499 (as opposed to the $699 listed in the fine print) and the 16gig was $399 (opposed to $599). So it looks like something of a discount is available for those of us who got the 3G on or around the date it was released. Just not the full discount.

Yup, discounts vary from “piss off” to full subsidized price depending on how much you pay per month and how far into your contract you are. Just like every other phone that AT&T sells.
