All that's missing are angry tearful declarations that "I'LL NEVER USE A GOOGLE APP AGAIN!"

It's not so much Google fanbois, but Lintards, who live in CandyFairyUnicornLand. The real world, where phone companies are businesses with high expenses, is a strange and foreign land to Lintards, and they don't much like it. Well, the feeling's mutual.

Is this really at all surprising? For all of Google's hippy attitude, they're still a real company, with real contractual obligations to other companies.

It's not surprising at all. What is annoying as all fuck is the people who don't get that and think that Google is based out of some magical land where pixies and unicorns provide free services out of the goodness of their precious little hearts.

for some reason, i anticipate this being "something entirely different" than what Apple is doing. call me cynical.
