Site Changes – New Commenting System

In the interests of being lazy, I’ve decided to install the Disqus comment system. I’m sure someone somewhere will have a problem with that, but frankly I don’t care. You all can still post anonymously in order to tell me what a horrible person I am, but now you’ll also have the option of using your Disqus or Facebook credentials to insult me as well.  See, it’s a win for everyone.

    Testing comment do-hicky

You are a horrible person for installing disqus. There it’s been said. Now all us cunts can get on with the usual banal commentary. Must say the History Lesson For The Freetards post has been most humorous. The expression of fustration at times lingers like a stale fart.

Disqus is ugly, but hey! Threaded comments! Life is good.

Technically the built in WP 2.7 comment system was threaded too, but it wasn’t particularly apparent. If a sudden wave of ennui attacks I’ll look into hacking disqus to match the old theme.

This actually isn’t too bad. Used to be Disqus would plaster its huge, ugly logo everywhere. Now it’s much smaller.

Oh no. I’ve logged in as me. Damn that facebook, anyway.

I can’t say dirty words now. I have an image to maintain. Fuck.

This, like everything about this site, sucks.

    You suck!

The commenting system is fine either way. My problem lately is that the site has apparently gone widescreen only and I’ve got a 3:4 monitor.

Short of stretching the screen out until each paragraph is one line and dragging it back and forth, the only way I can read the site now is to copy and paste it into TextEdit.

Is this a hint to buy a new computer? Are other sites going to go the same way? At least yours isn’t loaded with Flash abominations, for which I’m grateful. Just grumbling, ignore me if you like.

  • http://www.theangrydrunk.com The Angry Drunk

That’s odd, I’m using a fluid-width theme, so the content should resize, which it does for me. I never have a browser window more than 1000 pixels wide and I’m not seeing any issues. What browser are you using?

  • Gatesbasher

Safari 2 or Firefox 2 (yeah, I know, it’s time to upgrade.) But I just checked Firefox and all of a sudden, it works right. So [Emily Litella] Never Mind! [/Emily Litella]

On Safari, though, I think it’s the fluid width that’s the problem. A few sites occasionally come up in widescreen, but Safari gives you a scrollbar so you can just go back and forth. If I try to widen the window here on Safari, though, it resets the type to more than fill it up; unless, as I said, you stretch it out so that each paragraph is a single line.

I’m used to having weird shit happen to me that doesn’t happen to anybody else, so if I can just switch to Firefox, I’m happy. (Well not HAPPY happy, because I hate Firefox!)

  • http://www.theangrydrunk.com The Angry Drunk

Well, that’s weird. I can’t think of anything that would choke Safari 2. But I don’t have that version to test. I guess it will have to remain a mystery.

Hello, I’m currently customizing the ba-jesus out of my disqus before I install it site wide. I came across you site and I have a quick question. In yours (Angry Drunk) when you click on your avatar, all your badges display (facebook, Twitter, etc) and you have a toggle button to display the others. How do you set that up like that? How are you apparently logged into all of them when you post? I can only seem to log into one at a time. For some reason I can’t figure it out. Thanks for your time!

  • http://www.theangrydrunk.com The Angry Drunk

    Eric,
Good question since it just took me a non-trivial amount of time to remember how to do it myself.

If you go to http://www.disqus.com and log yourself in. You can then go to the Account tab and then the Services link. From there you can link to the various social media sites. It doesn’t actually log you into those services, it just links them to your Disqus profile.

  • EricWatson

Perfect — thanks alot — have a good weekend!

  • http://www.visibilityinherit.com EricWatson

Doing that, uncovered a little bug. Click on my newly created toggle button. See how it just launched you to the top? Yours doesn’t do it because you have more options revealed by the toggle — I do not. So I guess I need to add another social media…
