Hope

Those who know me know that I am not, by nature, a hopeful person. In fact, one might even say that I am a cynic. But on this night, this historic night, I am hopeful for the future of my country. Hope, and a sense of community has triumphed over fear, greed and exclusionism. The road ahead will be hard, but together we will bring about a bright new era; and I’m proud to be a part of that.

Well said sir. And I wholeheartedly agree, except for the majority of Califorinians who seem to believe that amending the Constitution to restricting rights is a good idea. Douchebags.

Cheers. Your guy won. My guy didn’t. Democrat majorities in both houses. I actually think it’s a good thing to have the Democrats clearly and convincingly in charge. They’ll have to make things better. If they don’t, they’ll have no one to point the finger at but themselves.

Oddly, I find myself — a die hard conservative — rather happy at the outcome of this election.

Let’s hoist a cold one and celebrate the greatest country on God’s green Earth.

And if we’re really lucky, the Republican party finds its way back from Christian fundamentalism to a genuine conservative platform. It’s no accident that McCain made his concession speech after exiting the Barry Goldwater Room.

I spent the afternoon watching the election when I should have been working. Greetings from Down Under where a recent poll of people here showed a desire for Obama to win by a margin of four to one. Last year we kicked out those running the country based purely on dogma and replaced them with those who see the bigger picture and take a primarily pragmatic view to dealing with issues. Nice to see you have done the same. For the first time in a long, long while the rest of the world is applauding the U.S. and — whisper it — might even dislike them a little bit less.

It is first step , a BIG one , but just a first step. We do have a long way too go.I hope we, as a country, have a long enough attention span and the fortitude to keep things headed in the right direction.… On that I am sickend by the closed minded hateful assholes who voted yes on 102 here in Arizona.

That’s the interesting thing, and I hope it’s something that lasts. Despite the very vicious campaign on both sides, there is a chance that this nation can come together. McCain regained a lot of respect with his concession speech, in that the nation healing was larger than him specifically winning.

McCain’s concession speech may have been gracious, but after the campaign he’s run or acquiesced in having had run for him…well, it’s breathtakingly insincere. And maybe you didn’t hear the ugly noises the crowd was making all the while with no attempt by McCain to moderate their boorishness. Meanwhile the crowd at Obama’s acceptance speech politely applauded when he mentioned hearing from McCain and accepting his congratulations. The difference between the rabid wingnuts Rethuglicans regard as their core constituency and the decent people who put Obama in the White House is striking.

Never mind that the GOP tried to put a pig-ignorant, batshit-insane harpy just one 72-year-old heartbeat away from the presidency, with access to all the bombs she needs to bring on the End Times™ she’s expecting any minute.…I still get shivers of horror from thinking about the bullet we dodged yesterday.

Personally, I hope the signs that the Republican party are going to circle the wagons and radicalize themselves into irrelevance for generations to come are correct. These fuckers have stolen half my life, and I’m a little vindictive!

very well done, America. Got it back –no longer an international pariah stinking up the place — and showed us all what democracy can do given a chance.
