Good Job Apple

I’m going to join in the chorus of people praising Apple for their stance on California’s Proposition 8. I frankly don’t give a tinker’s damn who you want to fuck; but the idea of the state keeping two people who love each other from certifying that love, based on the whims of a bunch of assholes and their three thousand year old fairy tale needs to be slapped down hard. Unfortunately, Arizona has a similar proposition on our ballot. How about it Steve, wanna shoot a few grand our way?

As a Christian myself, please don’t blame this on all of us: There’s actually precious little to back Proposition 8 on and quite a bit to argue against it.

I won’t go into details, because you likely couldn’t give a shit. :)

@Steven Fisher: I’m not blaming Christianity per se but you have to admit, no one ever comes up with an argument against same sex marriage that isn’t based in religion in some way.

Interesting aside though. I wonder how many corporations want things like Prop 8 to go through, not because of any religious sentiment, but because it would keep them from having to extend marital benefits to a whole class of people?

What I want to see is a really fundamentalist group try to get a measure on the ballot banning the consumption of shellfish. Because, seriously, I hate shrimp.

Oh, I’ll readily admit that! I don’t feel it’s supported, but that doesn’t stop the self-righteous from doing it. As a rule of thumb, if a Christian is being an asshole he’s doing Christianity wrong. And I’ll also readily admit that most of what we see is wrong, though whether it’s a majority or just a vocal minority I don’t think we have any way of knowing. And not that it matters much, but just to clear things up: I’m not offended in the slightest.

The corporate idea is interesting. I can see it making sense to a company to try that based on balance sheets. On the other hand, I doubt funding it would be worth it. It’s probably not going to make much of a difference to the result: Nobody’s going to change their minds, whatever they’ve already decided.

Also: Good shrimp are fine, but once you hit one bad shrimp in a meal you can never look at them the same way. I avoid all shrimp-based food now. My wife, who is allergic to shrimp that she breaks out in a rash, still likes them. Same thing with Glosette Peanuts. Just seeing them makes me want to retch now.
