I’ll bet the mad men who created this ad series are laughing every time they cash one of Microsoft’s checks.

I do have to give Seinfeld credit though, he's consistent. From a stand up routine about nothing, to a show about nothing, to an ad campaign about nothing. Also, watching an elderly Bill Gates do the "wedgie shuffle" was not how I wanted to start my day.

The people the ad is aimed at don't even know what "antitrust" means. They hear vague-sounding technical stuff about Microsoft, and think it only has something to do with Word or their browser. A few people understand what "Vista" means, but (after 15 years of reading MS error messages) believe they were too stupid to make it work properly. Some others actually realize that their four-year-old machine worked better with XP, and have already forked over hard cash to a geek to reinstall it.

The one thing all these people have in common with the rest of the population is this ad. Nobody will have a clue what it's supposed to be selling, because it's too vague about whatever image-building it's trying to perform.

I'll bet the mad men who created this ad series are laughing every time they cash one of Microsoft's checks.

After seeing that add I was speechless. It is now painfully apparent that both Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld are officially has-beens. Microsoft's ultra geeky-lame culture was strong enough to infect the ad agency they hired to the extent that the ad was completely ineffectual. A minute and a half of nothing to do with what Microsoft has done to improve Vista. You would think that Microsoft would want to create a new image for the company now that Bill is mainly gone - an image that would separate them from the anti-trust suits, Zune, Windows Mobile and their other failures. But they are totally clueless. Oh well, I guess it's good for a chuckle anyways...
