@MikeW: I zoomed in on the type, and it definitely uses subpixel antialiasing. Any chance you’re using the native antialiasing option added to recent Safari builds and Chrome is pulling that setting and not understanding it? (Grasping at straws to explain the difference here.)

It looks like the Chrome webkit is downwind (err, stream) from the current webkit head. I suspect they have their own rendering hooks into it, so merging with Apple’s changes is likely painful.

How about how terribly it renders type. No anti-aliasing whatsoever. Also seems to have issues with transparency for me.

I do agree – interesting approach to a browser however.
