Booop!

Hey, this is Angry Drunk’s iPhone. He has AT&T, so he’s got, like, zero bars in his own gods damned bedroom. Hope you didn’t have anything important to say.

Seriously AT&T, this is fucked up.

Commence the derision by the “don’t buy an iPhone” crowd.

I too hate AT&T’s service (or lack thereof). Almost everywhere I’m at (Palm Springs), there is hardly any bars… what the hell is all that “more bars in more places” bullshit? That said, I still love my iPhone, just wish it was more usable now and then.

I personally think AT&T is overselling their network, causing all of this to happen. But I also hate Verizon, so I am glad Apple didn’t go with them because I probably wouldn’t have bought the iPhone. At one time, I hate Verizon so much that I started to hate James Earl Jones by proxy.

Yeah, the only way Verizon would be better is that their “faux-horror-movie-dead-zone” commercials would be more fun to mock.

I don’t know about you, but personally I welcome any television ad that calls all non AT&T subscribers “dill weeds”.

I remember the phrase “dill weed”. I used to call people that when I was a kid when I was jealous of something they had.

@josh: At the end of one of the more recent ones (the chick obsessed with the swimmer) I’m pretty sure you can hear her say “bitch.”

Yeah, our neighborhood blows for coverage in a lot of places. I have the same problem at my house. Oh, and forget about using it inside Casey’s thanks to the copper roof.

Where did you finally find one BTW?

@Bryan Payne: Amusingly, the AT&T; signal starts to pick up right about where my WiFi drops out.

I ended up getting mine at the Biltmore last night. Turns out you can hack the availability page by changing your local system time and they had all 3 models in stock; plus they’re halfway between my office and home. 90 minutes of waiting and 10 minutes of activation later was was all iPhoned up.

I too have no service in my house (weak service all over my side of town really,) but the iPhone features somewhat make up for this fact. So a couple months after I got the iPhone I got a phone from Verzion I use exclusively to make calls. So I guess I now have a really expensive iTouch with a monthly fee.

Btw, I live in Baltimore, MD

Tgats really the biggest decision regarding any phone purchase – does the service suck ass by you. It’s why my friend had to leave Sprint. It was my biggest potential issue with AT&T. I’m still on the “testing” phase, but it looks fine. I’m not 3G, so a part of me really wants that old plan, though. Hehe… At least I’m on the road enough in places I can take advantage. Performed well at the last Hilton I was at. Now if only a good tethering app would hit the store…

wha…? OK, seriously, how does “tgat” seem to continuously slip by in-auto-corrected, when I can plainly see that it DOES auto-correct! That’s three separate occasions for me now.

In general, I’m quite satisfied with the coverage I get on my iPhone. I get anywhere from acceptable to really good reception most places I go, which in the year since I bought it includes San Francisco, Los Angeles (I even got a call out from right under the Hollywood sign), Paradise, CA, Oklahoma, Israel, and of course my hometown of Modesto.

That being said, however, for some reason there’s somewhat of a dead zone in the neighborhoods around and near my house. It’s as if you step over the threshold and all reception is sucked out of any cell transmitters that enter. It’s really annoying when I can’t make calls from the comfort of my own toilet, and considering how populated the dead zone is, I would think it would be a good idea for AT&T to erect a nearby tower. But they probably won’t, and since I’m moving soon it’ll be largely irrelevant for me.
