It’s offi­cial, my copy of MacOS X 10.5 Leopard has been installed. Overall I’m dig­ging it; but I have had a few issues. I’ll note my impres­sions below.

Wow, usu­ally my com­plete and utter apa­thy results in my rants being hor­ri­bly late; but for a change I was ahead of the curve. Go ahead and com­mence to fel­lat­ing each other you mighty Prophets of Nerdistan. Your whin­ing and com­plain­ing has slayed the mighty dragon that is Steve Jobs. He has heard your pro­nounce­ments and hung his mock-turtle-clad neck in shame. Yes you, and you alone, have forced Apple to announce a SDK for the iPhone

Or, per­haps not. Certainly noth­ing that any­one says or does will con­vince you oth­er­wise. So, drink deeply from your flagon of Mountain Dew Code Red! For you have tri­umphed over a great injus­tice! It’s still not going to get you anal though.

Musings on the iPhone, Google and Brand Identity Part 2

In Part 1 I pro­posed the the­ory that Apple is in the busi­ness of sell­ing a branded lifestyle, rather than any spe­cific prod­ucts. And that it is that very fact that causes the extreme reac­tions from the nerdis­tani com­mu­nity when­ever Apple does some­thing that the aver­age nerd con­sid­ers to be “wrong.” In the course of dis­cussing this, I noted that Google also sells a brand, and implied that they actu­ally do a bet­ter job of doing so; at least when con­sid­er­ing the nerd mar­ket. In this part I am going to expound on that point.

Musings on the iPhone, Google, Nerds and Brand Identity Part 1.

I’ve been tak­ing in all the wail­ing and gnash­ing of teeth from the tech pun­dits regard­ing the so called “brick­ing” of hacked iPhones with the 1.1.1 update; and I came to a real­iza­tion about just why the Nerdistanis get so fuck­ing worked up over every last thing that Apple does; and as a corol­lary why they tend to give a free pass to the bull­shit that Google pulls. It’s all about Identity and Branding.
